When Seconds Count, Can We Find You?

Stamford City Ordinance 804 requires your home and/or business to clearly display the street number on your building. Failure to do so could result in the delay of us your First Responders from reaching you quickly!

To further help you help us we've provided a brief summary of the requirements:

  • If the building is visible from the street and the entrance to the structure faces the street, than the numbers need to be affixed in the vicinity of the main entrance.
  • If the building is visible from the street, but the entrance is not, than the numbers need to be affixed on the building near the main path of travel leading to the main entrance. The numbers must be visible from the street.
  • If the building is not visible from the street, than the street numbers should be affixed to a post, or sign identifying the driveway access to the building. A mailbox with a street number that clearly identifies the driveway is acceptable.
  • Street numbers that are within 100 feet of the street must be at least 2½" inches in height.
  • Apartment and/or office numbers must be displayed at the entrance of the building. The apartment or office number must be displayed on the door of the individual unit.
